look left/right: a command on the ground of most of the busier intersections around here
For the first couple of days that I was here, I'd look down at the street, read the words "Look right" and instinctively look left anyway. Watching the cars drive away from me, I'd think stupidly, "Whelp, looks clear" and start to cross. Only to be honked at by the cars that were a mere three yards away that were about to barrel through the intersection.
According to Wikipedia (you know, the encyclopedia that never lies) 66.1% of countries drive on the right and 33.9% drive on the left.

Perhaps they all have friendly reminders on their roads for the silly foreigners that check to see if the coast is clear and then forget that the cars are coming from the other way and so still get clobbered anyway.
