faith: something that can be felt in some very special buildings
On Sunday, in the spirit of the Sabbath, I went to church. First I went to the meeting held at the Hyde Park chapel. It was actually a massive sacrement meeting for the stake to celebrate the rededication of the chapel with its new visitor's center.
Elder Erich W. Kopischke was there to do the dedication. It was an amazing meeting. They talked about how the chapel was built there only because of a plot of land opening up from the bombing in World War Two. And now it's on a main street for the Olympics.
Of the tragic events that led to the plot being for sale, Elder Kopischke said of our dear Father:
"He can make something good out of the greatest tragedies of our lives."
After that I went to Westminster Abbey, an Anglican church in the heart of London.
Stepping inside, I couldn't help but look heavenward. The building itself demands that the enterer's eyes follow the magnificent columns that lead to the ceiling that echo the shapes of clouds and space.
Something hushed me as I moved farther in. Perhaps the tombs of the greatest British people were whispering. Or maybe the angels were sighing that for 700 years, this was a place where thousands of people have come to become acquainted with their Maker.
I listened to the choir sing Evensong, which is a service that was sung by the choir there. It really touched my heart. I couldn't help but be happy for what they were sharing with me. Have faith. Repent of your sins. Be better. Walk taller. Stand more firmly. Don't give up hope.
1. I love this picture of you. 2. The way you speak of buildings and the "residue left from angels" is profound!
