dancing: an activity done in a pub when good music is being played
While walking down the lane of Portobello Road on Saturday, a few of my comrads found themselves enjoying a couple of tunes from a couple of guys that made up the band called The Robbie Boyd band. Intrigued, I was brought along to a local concert they were having at the Borderline (a pub tucked away in Soho).
What transcendence was felt there, my friends.
For the price of just seven simple pounds, we were led into the basement pub. A lady was on the stage singing some song that no one recognized but most enjoyed, while the people mingled about. Buying drinkings, sitting on the floor, eating the random guacamole that was being passed around, you know, the usual pub behavior.
A friend of mine and I sat nearer to the back and talked a bit with the locals: good places to eat, fun things to see, etc.
Then Robbie Boyd and his musical buddies got on stage.
The music was amazing. The energy was illuminating. The charisma was captivating.
Though they said nothing of religion nor God, I had a feeling that their songs of hope had a hint of the Higher.
After an amazing show and a few encore songs, the band met with the crowd in the back of the pub. Taking pictures and making jokes.
They even handed out cupcakes to all the people in attendance as we headed out into the night.
There are some just straight-up-really-awesome people in this world.
